Laser-based Care, One of the Most Advanced Dental Technologies Available Today
A Big Advance in the Treatment of Periodontal (Gum) Disease
Bay Dental Center offers the Biolase WaterLase™ system, known for its gentleness and accuracy in the treatment of many different dental and periodontal conditions.
Biolase WaterLase™, minimally-invasive laser-based care, can be used for individuals with various stages of gum disease and other uncomfortable dental ailments. This highly-regarded system has the ability to precisely target diseased tissue and remove it without heat, vibrations or pressure.
Most common treatment methods for more advanced gum disease require patients to undergo a time-consuming process wherein their infected gum tissue is removed with a scalpel and other tools. The laser technology behind the Biolase WaterLase™ system makes it possible to treat infected gum tissue without making a single incision. This system can reduce bleeding and inflammation associated with gum surgery, as well as reduce recovery time significantly.
Another unique aspect of the Biolase WaterLase™ system is that it can often be used without first injecting the patient with an anesthetic. This is because the laser-based system removes pain-causing factors from the equation, including vibration, pressure and heat. To reduce heat and discomfort during treatment, the Biolase WaterLase™ system gently sprays water and air onto the treatment site while the laser cuts easily through the inflamed gum tissue. Due to its pinpoint accuracy, the laser can target diseased tissue, while leaving healthy tissue intact.
The Biolase WaterLase™ system can also be used to:
Improve Your Smile
We may suggest contouring or shaping your gums to improve the appearance of your smile — safely removing excess gum tissue that may give you a “gummy” smile, or make your front teeth appear irregular in size or shape.
Remove Oral Growths
We may use laser-based care to remove growths or excess tissue in your mouth including gum tissue over an unerupted tooth, small “tags” called papilla, and growths called fibromas.
Fix a “Tongue Tie” or Prevent Gum Recession
Connections that restrict the movement of your tongue or cause your gums to recede can be “released” with the Biolase WaterLase™ system.
